Snapchat Is Proving to Become a Threat to Facebook
Facebook has been around for 12 years now and it has become the biggest social media giant but every now and then, another social media platform rises up that threatens Facebook in popularity. For example, Instagram and Whatsapp.inc. Facebook has been getting rid of these competitors through acquiring them or copying them but now a days, it is faced by a new competitor: Snapchat.
Snapchat is really popular among young people and it has become a part of their daily lives. This caused people to wonder whether Facebook is losing its touch. So, comScore composed a report that showed the percentage of 18 to 34 year olds who use different social media platforms and the monthly time period they use the platform for.
As this chart shows, there is really no doubt that Facebook is way, way ahead of every other social media platform out there but it also shows that Snapchat is the number second most used platform. It is even ahead of Instagram which was founded 1 year before Snapchat. It may seem like it is way behind Facebook in this chart but it is rapidly growing.
Another study by comScore shows the speed with which Snapchat users have been growing from April 2013 to December 2015. Here is the chart:
Now this shows that the growth of Snapchat is really something to consider. Snapchat could possibly be a threat to Facebook and it is not going away anytime soon. Maybe that is the reason Facebook acquired MSQRD a while ago because its lenses work the same as (if not better than) Snapchat. Facebook is preparing for battle. Let’s see who wins this time.
