You Can Now Live-Stream with a Friend Together on Instagram
Instagram rolled out the option to live stream on the platform for users all around the world almost a year ago. In its efforts to surpass Snapchat, the feature has been updated with cool features a few times since then. For example, the platform added the feature to save your live stream and then use it later in your story in the next 24 hours back in June. And now, another feature has come into play.
With this new feature, you can live stream with another person together while not being at the same place or in the same room. Yes, you will have to start your live stream yourself and then you can choose people from the audience one at a time to share your live stream. The viewers will see both of you on their screen with you on top and the added person right below.
You can remove the selected person at any time or they could leave the live stream by themselves as well. As for saving it, the same rules apply as the normal Instagram live stream. You can save it for adding to your story or you could discard it once it’s finished.
Instagram’s official blog post explained the reason behind this and how it works:
“Live video helps you share in an authentic way, but sometimes it can be intimidating when you’re on your own. It’s easy to add a guest while you’re broadcasting. Simply tap the new icon on the bottom right and tap “Add” to invite anyone who’s currently watching. Once they join, you’ll see the screen split into two and your friend pop up right below you.”
It can be used in multiple ways including social media marketing. You could hold interviews, honor a fan by including them in the live stream and any other reason you can think of. It makes collaborations so much easier because people don’t have to travel to get together to film a live stream. They could do it right from their homes.
This new update is now available for both Android and iOS devices with the version 20 of the app.
