How to Get More Instagram Followers the Non-Conventional Way

By Alex Neil Posted Nov 20, 2017 in Instagram Info/ Social Media Marketing

If you are just starting out on Instagram marketing, it gets disheartening pretty quickly when all your hard work of creating unique photos and videos is met with just a few likes or shares. It’s depressing even if you know that if you succeed in your efforts in time, your brand will benefit from it hugely.

The reason why you joined Instagram is probably one of the following:

  • Instagram has over 800 million monthly active users.
  • It offers 10x more engagement than its parent company and the social media giant a.k.a. Facebook.
  • Your brand is a visual brand and Instagram is the only platform besides Facebook that meets your marketing needs.

Or you might be just widening your horizons a bit. But while those reasons are all well and good, you will not actually get the results you want from Instagram unless you have a good follower base.

The problem with that is sometimes, okay, most of the time, it is challenging to get more followers for your account. Here are a few tips that have been proven the most useful when it comes to getting more followers on your Instagram account. These tips are not your usual tips in the way that they are not what you would find on most of the websites and blogs but nonetheless, they are definitely useful.

1- Hashtags:

instagram followers

Just like the blogging community and their weekly events and tags, Instagram also has somethings that help get you the audience that you want. Those are the hashtags that are known specifically to help get more followers. Some of those hashtags are #FF (Follow Friday), #instafollow, #l4l (Like for like), #tagforlikes and #followback.

You can also search for hashtags like #followme and #likeforlike and then you can follow them or like their posts and you will get more followers and engagement.

While it may seem cheap to use these kind of hashtags, they are certainly a good way to get more exposure and hence, more followers.

2- Like Photos By Your Target Audience:

Again, this is not the tip that you would usually find on an Instagram Marketing guide. You would usually find the tips like improve your profile, have high quality photos and generally good advice that will help you in your Instagram marketing in the long run. Those tips are crucial and you need to follow them. (If you want to know some of them, click here.)

But after following those tips, you need to use this kind of tips as well to get the results you want quicker than usual. Okay, so where were we?

Yes, like as many photos and videos as you can by the people in your target audience. Neil Patel, one of the top 10 online marketers according to Forbes, says that he received 6.1% more followers for every 100 photos he liked on Instagram. That certainly proves that this technique has actual potential of getting you more followers.

3- Hold Contests:

You’ve probably heard or read about this tip for getting followers for other social media platforms as well. That’s because it genuinely works. But the catch is that you have to offer people a valuable reward that they appreciate enough to join your contest. That reward could be your product, service, discount code or something else entirely. You can encourage people to follow you in return for a chance to win that reward.

One thing to keep in mind is that while you can offer any reward you want, you should only pick a prize that falls under your niche. This way, you will attract audiences that are genuinely interested in your brand and you will actually get engagement from them in the future.

4- Pick A Good Time to Post:

According to some researches, people tend to use Instagram more when they are just relaxing after a tiring day at work or when they are lying in bed at night about to sleep. So, as a general rule, it’s best if you scheduled your photos and videos to be posted around those times.

That means that you will have a chance of gaining more followers and engagement if you post around 5pm to 7pm or 12am to 2am.

5- Engage, Engage, and Engage:

You can follow all the tips and tricks in the world but what works the most is engaging with your target audiences and influencers.

You can like their posts, comment on them and share them as often as you can. This way, you will get noticed eventually and people will start following you which is exactly what you want. Yes, you will have to spend more time on Instagram but that’s a given if you want your Instagram account to grow and prosper.

These tips are not the only tips that have worked for people but they are definitely a good start. As you start applying them in your marketing strategy, you will begin to see results in a short time.
