Should You Include Snapchat or Instagram in Your Marketing Strategies?

Almost every business out there is using social media marketing to boost the rate of its success. They probably have a Facebook fan-page dedicated to their brand and they might also have a Twitter account. These two are the giants when it comes to social media marketing. But these are not the only ones that may help you in enhancing your internet presence.

There are many newer social media platforms that are totally different in nature but may be equally as effective. The most popular among those are Instagram and Snapchat. Yes, they are not exactly new but compared to 10 and 12 years of Twitter and Facebook (respectively), it’s safe to say that they are pretty new.

What I am trying to say is that Snapchat and Instagram have great potential when it comes to social media marketing. But should you consider them to include in your marketing campaigns? Well, it depends on a lot of things. Let’s talk about both these platforms separately to get a better understanding of how they work.

When Instagram came out in 2010, people did not really take it seriously as it seemed like a play thing for teenagers where they could be self-absorbed while feeling like a boss. With all those filters for selfies and videos, it seemed like just a random app for sharing pictures. But as it grew so fast, brands (mostly celebrities) came in abundance. Facebook saw Instagram’s potential and Mark Zuckerberg acquired it because it posed a threat to Facebook’s popularity. Now a lot of business marketers, not just celebrities, are using Instagram to reach their audience.

Snapchat on the other hand is unique its own way too. It came out and people thought that it was just a tool for sexting and random things. But it has become more and more popular among people as the time goes. Yes, the snaps only stay for 10 seconds but they leave an impact on people. People follow only those brands and celebs whom they want to see and they know that the snaps they receive has an expiration time of 10 seconds. So, when they watch those snaps, they pay extra attention because they know that they will not see it again.

What Instagram and Snapchat both have in common is that they offer people a glimpse of the everyday lives of the celebs and brands they follow. These platform add a personal and human touch to the glamourous and happening celebs and brands. That is the whole reason that these platforms have become as popular among people as they are.

So, to the answer the question whether these platforms should be in your marketing strategies, you have to consider a few things.

First, what age group is the focus of your brand? If it falls under 30, maybe you should use them. But if it is targeting older people, you have better chance at reaching them through the social media giants aka Facebook and Twitter.

Second, is your business just starting out? If you are new to the world of social media marketing, you should probably market it through Facebook or Twitter first and then think about branching out.

Third, do you have enough people? What I mean to say is that if you have a Facebook or Twitter account or both, they must take a lot of your time. And you probably have to run your business as well. So, unless you have a team dedicated to just social media marketing, you should think really hard before adding these platforms to the mix.

Finally, how many platforms do you use in social media marketing? The best number of platforms to use is 3. Choose whichever ones you like but whatever you do, do not spread yourself so thin that you lose your colors. If one is hard enough for you to handle, do not add another one. It is as simple as that.

In the end, it is entirely up to you whether you include one or both of these platforms in your social media marketing because you know your business better than anyone. You know what works best for you. Whatever works for you should be fine for your business. So, as the saying goes, “You do you.”
