5 Questions to Think about Before Setting up a Youtube Channel
So, are you inspired by people on Youtube to make a channel for yourself? Did you get inspired by how much money they are making or by how much popular they are? What is your motivation for starting a Youtube channel?
You might think I’m just randomly asking you questions but believe me, these are really important things to ask yourself if you want to go further down on this road. Below are a list of questions that are really crucial to ask yourself before jumping on the Youtube wagon:
1-What is Your Motivation?
This is probably the most essential question of all. What is the real reason you want to start a Youtube channel? Is this because you were inspired by someone? Do you want to drive more traffic to your blog or website? Do you feel so strongly about something that you want express your opinion? Do you want to get yourself known for your incredible talent? These reasons are really good but if you want to start a Youtube channel just because you want you videos to go viral and make lots of money, sorry to burst your bubble but that is probably not going to happen.
2-What will Your Channel be about?
What exactly is it that you want to make videos about? You can make videos about anything and everything like your daily life, your hobbies, your pets etc. But if you want to have a noticeable subscriber base, you will have to stick to one niche.
But whatever topic you choose, make sure that it is something that you feel passionate about; that you are actually interested in it. Because if you choose a topic that is popular with public but you are not really into it, it will come out bland and not good enough. Not to mention, you will stress yourself out trying to look interested in it.
3-What is Your Competition?
Before you start a Youtube channel, search about Youtubers that are currently covering the topic that you want to make videos about. Observe their channels and videos, see how they are going about that topic and think about all the different ways you can present it to your audience that will be more interesting.
4-How Many Videos will You Make?
You have to really think about it, make a decision and then stick to it. When you upload a video on Youtube, it is not really as simple as just making a video and uploading it. You make a video, edit it (sometimes putting 2 or more videos together), enhance sound quality, make annotations and if you are satisfied, only then upload it.
All in all, it takes a lot of time. So, considering all this, how often do you think that you will be able to upload a new video? When you decide, stick to that decision. People on Youtube want regular content, something they can expect on a certain day.
5-How Much Time Do You Have to Spare?
As you know, uploading a video takes a lot of time. But the work does not end there. You have to take some more time to promote your video across other social media platforms like Facebook and twitter, increase your subscribers and interact with people who commented on your video. All of these tasks will probably take more than half of your day. So, if you have a day job, you will find it difficult to blend it with Youtube on a daily basis.
All of this time and effort still may not give you the results that you want. You have to be patient and keep going if you want to succeed. Perseverance is what will pay off in the end in social media marketing. So, if you are not patient and want everything to pay off immediately, you are in for a world of disappointment.
Because as the saying goes, “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”
