We hear the term ‘tribe’ thrown around a lot but what exactly qualifies to define it?

Well, in simple words, a tribe is a group of people who connect with you and support you in your journey. This could be a personal journey and in that case, your family (by blood or otherwise) and friends are your tribe. They inspire you to go forward in your journey and achieve your goals and succeed. But the thing is, you need to put in effort to actually create that tribe that trusts you and considers you a part of their lives in some meaningful way.

The same is true if you are trying to build your online tribe. You need to establish trust and authenticity to make people want to follow you and be loyal to your brand. You need to earn it and that takes a lot of hard work, time, patience and good strategy. And if you are reading this article, you want to know the right direction to put your efforts in.

So, here are the steps you need to follow if you want to build an online tribe that stays with you in the long run.

1- Do Your Due Diligence:

What you need to do before actually making the effort to get people to follow you is create a proper plan about how you want your blog/social media channel to start. You need to look up influencers in your niche that inspire you and take a look at their strategies. See how they run their blog or social media accounts. Then figure out a strategy for yourself and what you want to achieve. Then you need to figure out the best platform to build your online tribe.

Yes, you could have multiple social media accounts to use for marketing but there is always that primary platform that you need to focus on the most. Will you be more comfortable with a blog? Or would you be able to run a YouTube channel better? Or would your brand will be more suitable for social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat?

Another thing you absolutely need to consider is where you will be most likely to find your audiences. Each and every platform has a different age group majority so you need to be careful about selecting your primary platform.

2- Be Genuine:

People can detect phony personas from a mile away and you need to be really careful how you represent yourself. The best way to approach this would be to be yourself because then it would be a lot less effort for you to maintain a voice for your brand.

This will not only increase your authenticity in your audiences’ eyes but it will make the whole thing easier for you as well. People don’t want to follow a robotic voice that’s overly professional and formal. You need to bring some human-ness (yes, just created a word, I know) to your social media posts or blog articles. Talk to the people like you would to people in your everyday life. Show people your personal side because that’s what they tend to connect to the most.

3- Be Rewarding:

Connect with people. That’s the absolute must if you want to build a good online tribe. You need to visit other blogs and social media profiles in your niche and genuinely interact with them without being promotional of your own brand. Internet marketing runs on a give and take principle. So, if you show your fellow influencers genuine interaction, they are more likely to return the favor.

That’s for connection with other brands and blogs. You need to connect with people that follow you as well. Reply to all the comments and emails you receive so that people know that you are there and giving them the attention and dedication they deserve.

Also, every now and then, reward your loyal followers in one way or another. It could be a physical gift that you ship to them, it could be a discount on your products or services or it could be a mention in your post. It could be anything as long as it makes your loyal followers feel special.

4- Quality Matters The Most:

It doesn’t matter if you run a blog, YouTube channel or some social media page or profile, the quality of your posts is the most important thing. You could go to the moon and back to get more followers and traffic, the thing that will make them actually stay with you is the quality of the content and products that you put out.

So, it should be the thing that you focus on the most. If you are posting videos, they should be of high quality and carefully edited. If you sharing photos, they should be of high resolution and with good visuals. If you are writing articles, the material and grammar should be top notch. If you upload random and low quality posts, that is going to cost you your followers in the long run.
