3 Ways to Market Your Brand Across Snapchat

By Alex Neil Posted Apr 27, 2017 in Snapchat/ Social Media Marketing

The history of social media marketing has shown time and time again that brands who hop on to the newer innovative social media platforms first reap the most benefit. It’s just the way it is. For example, when Facebook first started advertising, it was a lot cheaper than it is today. So, the brands who invested in Facebook marketing at that time established themselves at a much less cost than the CPC they’d have to pay today.

As the social media platforms become more established and successful, they start charging more for their advertisement programs. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube are already the most successful platforms in terms of social media marketing and they have great annual ad revenues. So, you have a lot of competition on those platforms as far as social media marketing is concerned.

But there is a platforms where marketing is just now taking a rise and that platform is Snapchat. According to a research by Mashable, only 1% of advertisers use Snapchat for marketing right now. That’s a pretty low number and you’ve got to wonder why that is. It’s because most of the people thing Snapchat is a way for youngsters to get dirty with their love interests. Yes, that may be true but it’s a lot more than that.

Snapchat gets around 4 billion views per day and that’s around the same number of views Facebook gets. It’s at 4th place in the list of top social media platforms. The age groups present on Snapchat are between 18 and 34 year olds but it’s getting increasingly popular among older age groups as well.

All of this shows how much you need to make Snapchat part of your marketing strategy, especially if you have products or services that cater to young people. No to mention, the low number of advertisers makes for easy marketing because of less competition.

So, if you want to use Snapchat to market your brand, here are a few ways that will help you in your journey.

1- Time Sensitive Offers:

Since Snapchat is basically a platform that makes stories disappear after 24 hours, you can take advantage of that fact.

Just in case that you don’t know how Snapchat works, here is a quick explanation. The snaps you send to your followers last for 10 seconds (whether they are pics or videos) when they view them and then those snaps disappear into thin air. You can also make stories and those stories have a timeline of 24 hours before they disappear.

You can really take advantage of this feature because it will show your followers that the offer that you sent them in your story will really disappear after 24 hours. It’s a great initiative to give your followers a sense of urgency. That’s a great way to market your products, isn’t it?

2- Do Influencer Marketing:

You can get one of the big influencers on Snapchat to market your products or services. They could show themselves using your products in their videos and it would be great way to increase brand awareness.

Their followers would be inspired to use the product that their favorite celebrity is using. You can’t underestimate the power of fan bases. Really, fans these days are really loyal to the celebrities and brands they believe in. That’s particularly because social media makes them feel like they are connected with their idols. They take their suggestions very seriously. So, influencer marketing is a great way to market your brand on Snapchat.

3- Blend In:

That seems ridiculous, right? The whole purpose of marketing is to stand out. Yes, you need to stand out but not in a bad way. What I mean by blending in is that Snapchat is basically crawling with young people. And we all know that today’s youngsters use a whole different version of English language.

What I’m trying to say is to be ‘cool’. The most popular brand on Snapchat is Taco Bell and that’s because they blend in with the youngsters; they talk their language. They even make use of the doodle feature and put in a bunch of emojis just to liven up the snap or story they are sharing. They get creative in their snaps and that appeals to youngsters.

If you want to do traditional marketing, you are better off at Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. But if you want to market your brand at Snapchat, you need to make sure that your brand’s voice is more live and fresh, sometimes even bordering on crazy. The key to Snapchat marketing is to not be boring. If you can manage that, you are good to go.
